Charles Sheldon had the idea of making Mount McKinley a National Park before people come and hurt the wildlife and landscape. “Originally established as Mount McKinley National Park in 1917, the park’s boundaries have pushed outward to include Denali National Monument and Denali Preserve.” Then, in 1980, Mount McKinley merged with Denali to become Denali National Park and Preserve.
